About Carol
Carol Band’s
humor column, “A Household Word,” has won
numerous awards–including the Gold
Award from
Parenting Publications of America
for two consecutive years- and is featured in publications and on
websites around the country. The column
captures moments of family life that would
make Kodak cringe and gives parents
permission to lighten up. Carol’s slightly
twisted take on family life has garnered
awards as well as a loyal following of
readers from coast to coast. She’s the best
friend you wish you could call for advice,
the neighbor that you wished lived next door
and the mom that you’re glad you didn’t
have.
A journalist by training and mom by chance,
Carol’s writing has appeared in publications
including:
The Boston Globe,
The Boston
Parents’ Paper,
L.A
Parent,
AARP Magazine,
Booming Magazine and on numerous websites
including Eons.com,
HumorPress.com and
parenthood.com. In
addition to writing about parenting and
family, Carol has also authored travel
features and restaurant and movie reviews.
She has developed marketing programs for
colleges, museums and non-profit
organizations and also produced advertising
copy and marketing materials and strategies
for clients including: Coppertone, LeapFrog
and The Spy Museum.
Her book, A Household Word, is in response
to readers who have been asking for more of
Carol’s wisdom and wit. A popular speaker at
PTOs, parenting organizations and women’s
groups throughout New England, Carol is a
member of the
National Society of Newspaper
Columnists and graduate of Boston
University.
Carol lives in Massachusetts with her
husband of 25 years and their three
children, five fish, two lizards, and a cat
and a dog.
Carol is a
judge in the 2008 Erma Bombeck Writing
